Meet the Magic Meadows Team

A Letter from Sally & Mike

Dear Animal Lover and Nature Enthusiasts,

We chose to name our new adventure Magic Meadows. The original Magic Meadows was a standardbred race horse training farm in Elgin, IL. This is where I was the most happiest in my teen years and where I met my husband, Mike.

We wanted to recreate the magic again. The years passed and we took many other paths. Our dreams unfilled.

Caring for my Mom who was dying from cancer made us realize how fragile life really is. Mom’s death and having my childhood passion and dreams haunt me day in and day out pushed me forward. I had to make “something” happen to move us closer to a life worth living.

We spent 15 years looking at many properties to find the right farmette suitable for our needs. We finally found our new home, Magic Meadows, which is located in unincorporated Wonder Lake, IL in Mchenry County, northern Illinois. A northwestern suburb of Chicago.

We sit and plan where Magic Meadows will grow and go in the future and we have to admit Magic Meadows is taking on a life of its own, spurring our inspiration in ways we could never have imagined.

We bring this love, this passion, and this dream of being a Steward of Animals to Magic Meadows Alpacas, and in turn Magic Meadows Alpacas is evolving into a fun-filled, magic-al Suri Alpaca farm. And of course, a place where horses will always have a home to be just that—horses. We have started to grow a vegetable garden where we use one of the best soil additives, alpaca manure (beans).

Magic Meadows Alpacas is a farm located near Chicago, Illinois where you can come and learn about alpacas while feeding them. Guaranteed all will walk away with a smile and memories to share. Discover a place to come and heal, and find a farm to expand even your dreams.

We can joyously say each day we get to walk into a happy barn of nickering horses, a meowing barn cat, and humming alpacas.

God Bless,
Sally & Mike

We’re proud members of Alpaca Owners Association.

Meet the Alpacas

Shirley Temple

It all began with Shirley Temple. We are sad, Shirley recently passed. Along with Chloe. they were brought home in 2015. Shirley was our matron of alpacas. She had a level head and passed this and other strong traits to each of her offspring. Shirley Temple gave birth to our first cria (kree-ah) 11 months after she arrived with us. And is shown here with her son Choo Choo Charlie.

Chloe

Chloe came home with Shirley Temple. Sad to say Chloe passed late summer in 2024. Her soft, kind eyes and gentle spirit that she brought to Magic Meadows Alpacas is severely missed. Her fiber made the most amazing yarn and felted sheets that we then turned into tapestries. She was the mother of Rainier.

Lady Guinevere

Lady Guinevere came to us the following year. She is a very special lady, living up to her royal name and making sure everyone knows it. (Which is okay with us, since her fleece is the most luxurious, thick, and soft fiber you’ll every come across.) Her yarn has won several awards at Alpaca Owners Association & Suri Network shows. She is the mother of Sir Galahad.

JoaSea (Jo-Ah-Sea) was our first cria. Named in memory for Sally’s mom; Joanne and her beloved city, Seattle. JoaSea had a hard time coming into this world, but today JoaSea is a kind and loving alpaca—stronger than ever before with a baby of her own; Katy’s Angel in the back. Her fleece is silky and bright.

Magic Meadows Rainier is the son of Chloe. named after our Mom’s beloved Mt. Rainier. He has a strong outgoing personality that all love. His fiber is dense and makes amazing champagne colored yarn.

Sir Galahad is Rainier’s half brother. Sir Galahad is shy and has had health challenges. He is Lady Guenevere’s son and has fleece like his mother’s—luxurious and thick.

Katy’s Angel of Magic Meadows is named for Mike’s grandmother. Her fiber is similar to her mother’s, silky and bright. She is strong minded and very level-headed. Katy’s Angel is the first daughter to JoaSea and the granddaughter to Shirley Temple.

Magic Meadows Choo Choo Charlie is our biggest character. Like his half sister Katy’s Angel, he has a strong mind and will. His antics makes us laugh and he keeps us on our toes. His fiber is what we bred for! Lustrous and spiraling.

Black Velvet is everyone’s favorite. She loves cushing for most of our guests. Her demeanor is loving and shy. You may even be able to sit next to her for a spell. It is Black Velvet’s choice who she decides to hang out with.

Princess Violet is our newest member and the daughter of Ewok and Rainier. She was born on June 25, 2025. Violet has inherited Rainier's friendly and cheerful personality. Violet was born June 25, 2025. She spend 382 days in the womb. All legs. Most gestations are 330 - 340 days. Because of this her legs didn’t form correctly. She is waiting on surgery to correct them. We have started a gofundme for her and her Mom, Ewok. Here is her link:

“Stopped in to learn about alpacas from Mustang Sally and Mike—people who clearly love the animals they care for. We learned about alpacas (and horses… bonus!) while feeding and posing for pictures with them. A fun hour that my younger kids, and even my teenager, enjoyed greatly.”
